Hand-painted by renowned artist Alhaz GK Mushahid after 5 years of dedicated research and he discovered the innovative technique of hand-painting on sheepskin for the first time in the world of art. This masterpiece captures the essence of Martinique’s bold and symbolic flag, adopted on February 2, 2023.
The red-green-black flag, known as the "nationalist flag", was first designed in 1968 and has long been associated with Martinique's quest for independence and cultural pride. It features:
- A red triangle at the hoist, representing the struggles and sacrifices made for liberty.
- A green upper horizontal band, symbolizing the lush vegetation and natural beauty of Martinique.
- A black lower horizontal band, denoting the strength and resilience of its people.
Inspired by the Pan-African diaspora movement, the flag's colors echo the principles of Marcus Garvey’s Pan-African flag (red, black, and green), a historical emblem of unity, liberation, and self-determination. First flown in 1995, it gained widespread support and was officially adopted in 2023 following a public vote, solidifying its status as a powerful national symbol.
